As #PlasticFreeJuly wraps up, we're closing out a month of looking at how construction can do its bit to reduce plastic waste, especially the microplastics created on site. Small changes on site, like better dust control or smarter material choices, can go a long way. But it's not just about what we do at work. The team at Cityscape Recruitment USA has been using the Plastic Free July checklist to rethink the plastics we rely on day to day. If you're looking for practical ways to cut down your plastic use, it's a good place to start. A few easy wins include: 🔹 Taking your own bags to the shop 🔹 Choose unpackaged fruit and veg 🔹 Say no to takeaway coffee lids and drink straws 🔹 Using refillable bottles or refill stations instead of buying bottled drinks Every piece of plastic not used counts, whether you're working on site or on your lunch break. If you haven't already, give the checklist a go: plasticfreejuly.org Here's to July 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣!

Chicago Fire FC has just unveiled its vision for a new 22,000-seat stadium, forming the centrepiece of an ambitious mixed-use development called The 78. With open plazas, riverfront views and community space built in from the outset, this isn't just a sports venue. It's an investment in placemaking, designed to bring people together year-round. With over half our team originally from the UK, we're naturally drawn to stories where football (ok, soccer) plays a leading role. Especially hot on the heels of the Lionesses' recent victory, it's great to see the sport gaining momentum in our new US home. We're sharing this story because it blends thoughtful design, community focus and the beautiful game ⚽ #ConstructionNews #SportsInfrastructure #ChicagoFireFC

This thoughtful piece by Tom Wilcock of Arup explores how artificial intelligence is already reshaping the work of engineers, architects, and planners - particularly in tackling sustainability challenges and attracting the next generation of talent. From supporting low-carbon design to inspiring a more systems-based, creative approach among young professionals, the role of AI is growing fast. And with over a third of engineers and architects now using AI daily, it's clear this is more than a trend. As a recruitment business immersed in the construction industry, we're always interested in how innovation influences both project outcomes and career paths. This article takes an interesting look at both. It's worth a read for anyone thinking about the future of design, sustainability, or careers in construction: 🔗 https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eJf8BpHE #AIinConstruction #SustainableDesign #ConstructionCareers

Ground has officially broken on the Essex-Hudson Greenway, a 9-mile linear park that will stretch from Montclair to Jersey City along a former railway line. The first phase, costing $69.2M and centred in Newark, includes: Step-free pedestrian and bike paths Public green spaces with stages, courts, and play areas Infrastructure to help manage stormwater and improve climate resilience This highlights a change in how disused land is valued and how it could be utilised. This project aims to link nine municipalities through shared green space and local investment. It's a project worth following, particularly for those interested in people-first planning and investment. #UrbanRevival #ConstructionNews #PeopleFirstPlanning

We've explored how microplastics form from standard site materials, and how small changes like HEPA vacuums, wet-cutting, or switching to lower-shed products can help reduce exposure. A recent study in ScienceDirect reinforces these concerns. It shows how widespread microplastic generation is across the built environment. Even materials we rarely question—paint, sealants, foams—can add to the problem over time. The takeaway is clear. This isn't limited to coastlines or marine environments. Microplastics are part of how we build and maintain structures everywhere. The upside is that awareness is growing. The construction industry already has the tools to tackle this. If more teams test alternatives and share what they find, we stand a better chance of making real progress.
