Boston Public Schools celebrates our 2025 valedictorians! Thirty-Three Boston Public Schools seniors representing 32 high schools recently graduated at the top of their class. Each day over the next few weeks, we will honor one valedictorian, highlighting a little of what makes them so special. Josiah Quincy Upper School: Christina Yang Christina is a driven and curious scholar, balancing her studies as an International Baccalaureate candidate with her leadership role as captain of the debate team. Beyond academics, she volunteers with the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center. As the first in her family to attend college, Christina will study education and human development at Boston University as a Trustee Scholar. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science: Shawn Zhang Shawn has excelled in Advanced Placement, dual-enrollment, multivariable calculus, and linear algebra courses. A Crimson Summer Academy scholar, Shawn conducted cancer research that was published and presented. Outside of academics, he’s a pianist, competitive fencer, student body president, and National Honor Society member. Written by Mfoniso Udofia and directed by John ADEkoje, “Kufre n’ Quay” is part of the Ufot Family Cycle, a two-year city-wide festival of Udofia’s cycle of plays. New Mission High School: Cristiane Ramos Timas dos Santos Cristiane, a native of Cape Verde, has brightened up New Mission’s halls with her kindness and wit. She’s an Early College Scholar at Wentworth Institute of Technology and will graduate high school with almost one year of college credit. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, drawing, and cooking. Christiane will study biomedical engineering at Smith College as a QuestBridge Scholar. Margarita Muñiz Academy: Kayliaris Espinoza Muñoz Kayliaris, who proudly celebrates her Guatemalan and Puerto Rican roots, was raised in Mattapan by a loving and supportive family. She maintained honor roll status throughout high school through hard work and determination. She’ll be the first in her family to attend college when she begins her next chapter at UMass Boston, studying nursing with the goal of starting in pediatrics and eventually working in the NICU. King South End Academy: Terrence Brown Originally from Las Vegas, Terrence moved to Boston at age four and found a second home at the Melvin H. King South End Academy. He quickly grew into a confident, resilient leader, serving as both vice president and president of the student council, representing his peers on the School Site Council, and playing a key role in hiring educators as part of the school’s personnel subcommittee. Terrence will begin his next chapter at Roxbury Community College, where he plans to major in general studies. Madison Park Technical Vocational High School: Cesar Peña Chicas Cesar is a standout senior in the electrical program. Through the RoxMAPP Early College Program, he already has earned 61 college credits and an associate’s degree from Bunker Hill Community College, all while maintaining a 4.4 GPA at Madison Park. Cesar also mentors freshmen in his shop and serves in JROTC, volunteering in events throughout his school and community. He’ll attend Umass Boston to study electrical engineering. Mary Lyon Pilot High School: Rolande Shelle Soliman Shelle was born in Haiti, moved to Chile, and then came to the U.S. at 18, facing the challenges of a new language and culture. Though English and school were difficult at first, she pushed through with daily practice and steady determination. A workshop she attended at Harvard Medical School confirmed her dream of becoming an obstetrician. She’ll attend UMass Boston in the fall, ready to pursue her goals and see the world.
