Steel manufacturing is one of the most carbon-intensive industries globally. Now, experts have created a fossil-free process. Boston Metal's new method eliminates fossil fuels from the process entirely — and their emissions are clean enough to vent next to a daycare. Instead of using coal or natural gas to refine iron, the compnay employs molten oxide electrolysis—an electrified method that produces only oxygen as a byproduct.
