We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the first four cases in Axoft's first-in-human clinical study (FINESSE) using our ultrasoft Fleuron™ probes. Our new research preprint (link ⬇️) highlights major breakthroughs toward achieving stable, high-density, and clinically viable Brain-Computer Interfaces. This major step brings Axoft one step closer to helping millions of patients suffering from neurological disorders. Key insights from our clinical and preclinical studies: - In-human testing demonstrated Fleuron probes' ability to reliably capture high-density neural data from depth into the human brain (without observing signal drift or catastrophic failure modes that are common with laminar, high-density silicon probes) - Fleuron probes can detect neural correlates of depth of consciousness in response to auditory paradigms with high signal-to-noise ratio and temporal precision - Fleuron minimizes chronic glial encapsulation and implant micromotion compared to rigid polyimide used in current state-of-the-art neural interfaces - Fleuron probes achieve stable single-neuron resolution recordings for over 18 months in preclinical studies - Fleuron probes integrate seamlessly into minimally invasive surgical workflows and offer unique visibility in post-operative clinical MRI Press release: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/e_vsJRnH https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/ek6_n3Nz Preprint: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gP3KW9aR Clinical study: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eq7ZFQdS We are incredibly thankful to all the clinical study participants, Axoft team members, collaborators and supporters involved in this project! 🚀 Axoft is expanding to Europe! We’ve just opened a subsidiary in Grenoble, France - a vibrant hub at the intersection of deeptech, medtech, and neuroscience. This marks an exciting step as we grow our clinical and commercial presence in Europe. Looking forward to new collaborations in the Alps and beyond 🇫🇷🧠 #Neurotech #Deeptech #BCI #Medtech #Grenoble #Axoft
Today, we’re thrilled to share new research published in #Nature that introduces a novel brain implant application made possible with Axoft Materials. The research (link ⬇️) shows how Axoft’s ultra-soft Fleuron™ material can be used to overcome the long-standing challenge of designing bioelectronics capable of stably tracking neural activities in the developing brain as it undergoes large morphological changes. This work is an important milestone toward the development of future #biohybrids and brain-computer interfaces. A massive congrats and thank you to all of the authors of this impactful research! In particular, Hao Sheng, Ren Liu, Qiang Li, Zuwan Lin and Prof. Jia Liu, co-founder and scientific advisor at Axoft. Recording neural activity at the cellular level throughout brain development is critical in the study of neuroscience and neurodevelopmental disorders, however conventional rigid implants present fundamental mechanical mismatches between electronic and biological materials – making it impossible to interrogate the highly dynamic developing brain with accuracy, compatibility or longevity. This newly published research outlines how a Fleuron™-based, tissue-level-soft, sub-micrometer-thick, stretchable mesh microelectrode array can: - Leverage the 2D-to-3D reconfiguration process of brain tissue during embryonic development to stretch and distribute throughout the entire brain, fully integrating into the 3D tissue structure. - Show no discernible impact on brain development or function, as proven through immunostaining, gene expression analysis and behavioral testing. - Enable long-term, stable, brain-wide, single-unit-single-spike-resolved electrical mapping, and thereby illustrate how neural electrical activities and population dynamics emerge and evolve during brain development.
