Hospital beds and therapeutic support surfaces are critical for patient care — yet they are often overlooked when it comes to innovation. bettyann bird, EVP and Chief Strategy Officer at Agiliti, shares her take on how smarter beds and support surfaces are changing the game in a new MedCity News article. As caregiver priorities shift toward mobility and faster recovery, new bed technology like slide rail positioning and ultra-low bed heights are helping hospitals reduce strain on staff and get patients up and moving sooner. New features and technology also play a role in helping to prevent HAIs, pressure injuries and falls. Support surfaces also continue to evolve and introduce new capabilities to help clinicians. New support surface construction and materials — such as RF-welded seams and chemically resistant top covers — are better able to withstand frequent disinfection while maintaining surface integrity, preventing fluid and contaminant ingress to the mattress.
