James Plant is a Managed Inventory Representative at RS and has been with the business for 18 months. Focused on supporting customers directly, James plays a hands-on role in managing stock levels and ensuring products are where they need to be, when they’re needed most. His proactive approach and customer-first mindset help strengthen our service offering on the ground. We caught up with him to learn more about his role and how he helps us #MakeEverydayBetter for our customers. Q1. What’s a snapshot of a normal day for you at RS? JP: "Being field based, a typical day for me often includes visiting the RS Local in Manchester to pick up any parcels, then heading out to the customer sites to fulfil their Scanstock and Vendstock solutions. While onsite, I’ll speak with engineers and the guys on the ground to better understand their business and find ways that myself and RS can help get rid of their pain points." Q2. What makes RS a special place to work for you? JP: "My favourite part about working at RS is their dedication to their employees. RS put a massive emphasis on employee wellbeing. From the benefits, to the wellbeing rooms, to the Employee Resources Groups, RS put a push on employee wellbeing and inclusivity to ensure every can be their true self at work. I think it’s beautiful." Q3. Looking back, what’s a highlight of your time here? JP: "One of the best memories I have of working at RS, is taking part in the International Youth Day 2024 celebrations in Corby. The event was organised by RS’ Bloomers Committee, and it included a range of workshops, panel events, and Q+As. It was good to meet people from different areas of the business, as well as representatives from other companies, who were all keen to show support for young people in the industry and workplace." #WeAreRS #RSLife #OurPeople

👀 No, your eyes aren't deceiving you! That is a knight on horseback in the RS Corby garden. This picture generates more questions than answers... Do those legs belong to the knight or the horse? How did a horse get through security? Did the second knight lose his horse? Thankfully, we can answer the question about why they were there. This was to mark the launch of our "Charge to Change" campaign, which saw the introduction of a new system based on an IBM mainframe and enabling multi-column pricing, bulk product supply and live accounts for our customers. A logo was created in the form of a knight on a horse, which led to the appearance of an actual knight... which is now a wonderful piece of RS history. Huge congratulations to Alex D. our Customer Procurement Solutions Director for RS Americas who has been named as "Most Inspirational Mentor of the Year: Runner-Up" in the Moving Ahead "Inspired By" awards. Alex has been mentoring as part of Mission Include, a global cross-company mentoring programme designed to support underrepresented talent. He told us: "I’m genuinely surprised and incredibly honoured. During the past year, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring two brilliant individuals. Talented, curious, driven, and generous enough to let me be part of their journey. What started as mentorship quickly became mutual learning, and I’ve grown just as much from our conversations as I hope they have. This award is not mine. It belongs to them. "As a 41-year-old white male, I recognize the privilege that’s shaped parts of my path. I’ve worked in an industry I love for 20 years, and while we’ve made positive strides around inclusion, there’s still a long way to go. I stand firmly with those pushing for change - listening, learning, and doing what I can to help.
