A prominent Silicon Valley billionaire has complained to Downing Street about the technology secretary and the Online Safety Act. Marc Andreessen, a venture capitalist close to the Trump administration, contacted No 10 to express his disquiet about the impact of the act on freedom of expression, the Financial Times reported. Andreessen, who co-founded the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), also raised comments by Peter Kyle, the technology secretary, comparing opponents of the act such as Nigel Farage to Jimmy Savile. A parliamentary petition calling for a repeal of the act has been signed by more than 500,000 people. But despite the vocal opposition, the act has gained widespread support from parents, according to polls.
