Pakistan's transition towards solar power has led to an increasing number of disputes in the energy sector, particularly with regards to 'Power Purchase Agreements' (PPAs). With arbitration the forum typically selected for resolving these disputes, and London remaining a highly favoured seat for arbitrations generally, the English courts have recently decided on a number of cases which have developed out of these arbitral proceedings. Head of our commercial dispute resolution team, Kamran Rehman, senior associate Richard Raban-Williams, and senior knowledge lawyer Harriet Campbell have collaborated with Bakhtawar Bilal Soofi and Ahmed Reza Mirza of leading Pakistan law firm, ABS & Co, on the first in a three-part series of articles. This first piece considers judgments handed down by the English courts in cases concerning the operation of PPAs in Pakistan, and London's role as a hub for international energy arbitrations. Huge congratulations to our India Group, which has retained its position as a Key Player in the India Business Law Journal's ranking of the top performing international firms with an India focus. This year’s report highlights how firms with deep regional insight and long-standing client relationships continue to stand out in a competitive landscape. Our consistent recognition reflects the strength of our India Group’s strategic focus and trusted expertise in navigating complex cross-border matters. The accolade follows co-head of the India Group Phillip D'Costa's inclusion in the IBLJ's International A-List. Speaking on behalf of the team, Phillip says: "We're incredibly proud to once again be included in this exclusive list. The India Group brings together lawyers with diverse areas of expertise from across the firm, who all work hard to deliver first-class support and 'big picture' solutions to clients who are expanding out or investing into India. It's great to have our commitment acknowledged. Following India’s FTA with the UK, the bi-lateral trade relationship is set to benefit from the steep tariff cuts agreed across a range of sectors – we're well placed to support clients as they navigate new opportunities and look forward to continuing to play our part in supporting the India-UK business ecosystem." #iblj #india #lawfirms #ibljawards #legalnews
