  • ➡️ SEB's China Financial Index, measuring business outlook among northern European companies' subsidiaries in China, has improved slightly, to 52.6 from 52.0 six months ago. ➡️ Three of the four index components (order intake, investment, staffing, and profit) rose from the previous survey in December last year. However, the index is still well below the historical average of 57.2. ➡️ “The improvement we see in the survey is consistent with our anecdotal observations. Supportive measures announced by the government at the end of last year seem more convincing now, lending some support for an upswing in sentiment,” says Juliette Xue Lascoux, General Manager of SEB Shanghai. ➡️ However, companies remain very cautious about further investments amid continuous geopolitical uncertainty and challenges from intensifying local competition. Many Northern European companies say their future China strategy will require much more precision. The days when investment decisions were based on general faith in China as a market are gone, the survey shows. Read the report in its entirety: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/dpfyyxCD

  • SEB congratulates Fazer on the renewal of its chocolate production and the establishment of its Green Finance Framework. The approx. EUR 400 million investment in a new factory in Lahti, Finland combines Fazer's chocolate expertise with automated production lines and new technology that can be used to produce completely new types of products. Thanks to electrification and comprehensive energy recycling, the factory will be CO2 emissions-free, and the efficient use of raw materials enabled by the new technology will also significantly reduce production waste. The factory, which will be located in the Pippo industrial area, is scheduled for completion in 2028. The investment will be carried out during 2025–2028 and financed with long-term debt financing. SEB is delighted to have acted as MLA and Bookrunner. As part of the financing structure, Fazer has established a green finance framework. Within this framework, the company can issue a variety of green financial instruments, including green loans, leasing agreements and bonds to finance and/or refinance green projects with a positive environmental impact. SEB proudly acted as a sole sustainability advisor for the Green Finance Framework. Sustainalytics has provided an independent Second Party Opinion on Fazer's framework. Read more in Fazer’s press release: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/dNbXMKaX The portfolio of projects eligible for funding is described in the framework, more information is available on the Fazer website: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/dkZ8TkeM

  • July 12, 1896. It is an unusually hot summer with a lot of mosquitoes when a group of metropolitan financial executives gather for an excursion in the Swedish mountains, or “the land of the future” as the northernmost regions of Sweden is called at that time. Headed by Knut Agaton Wallenberg, CEO of Stockholms Enskilda Bank (later SEB), they walk 170 kilometres from the small fishing village Narvik on the Atlantic Ocean, into the northern Norwegian Rombakksfjord, across the mountains and the national border to Sweden before ending up in the town we today call Kiruna. This is also home to one the world's richest iron ore deposits, and the walk is crucial to finding financing for the Kiruna-Narvik railroad. It paves the way for Europe's largest iron ore mine in Kiruna and also lays the foundation for the Swedish and European steel industry and industrialisation throughout the 20th century. Ever since, SEB helps financing ground-breaking projects that create jobs, development and confidence in the future. #SEB #History

  • Have you heard about Alida Rossander? On July 5th 1864 she became the first female bank employee when she started working at SEB. Her employer and the bank’s founder and CEO, André Oscar Wallenberg, did not think her employment would meet any obstacles in accordance with the board meeting protocol because “women’s sense of order, honesty and perseverance could in no way be underestimated less than men.” By 1880, sixteen women had been employed by the bank and in the year 1906, a photograph is taken at the office on Stureplan, with women representing ten of the 43 employees. Today we would express ourselves differently, but diversity and inclusion are still of high importance to us. We continue writing history.

“The challenge of staying within the planet’s boundaries continues to grow, and despite market fluctuations, we continue to see great value creation from sustainable, innovative solutions,” says Markus Hökfelt, Head of SEB Greentech VC. SEB has extended the mandate of Greentech VC, the bank’s unit that invests in companies with technologies that help reduce the effects of climate change, protect biodiversity and other areas covered by the concept of “planetary boundaries”. SEB Greentech VC now has an extended mandate to invest 1 billion Swedish kronor (90 million euros) in such companies. When the unit started in 2021, the mandate was to invest up to 300 million kronor. Find out more: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/dJmkRn4n
