  • 🚀 SkillLab starts on another new journey: On June 23-24, 2025, the ARCOE project (Advancing Research Careers through Organizational Excellence) officially kicked off in Rome, hosted by Fondazione E. Amaldi and attended by SkillLab's Sylvana Hiltrop and Nadine Belhidane. With a strong partnership across 9 countries, this project under the Horizon Europe program sets out to empower research careers across Europe. During the next 3 years, SkillLab will help to: 🔎 Understand researchers’ skills and analyse target occupations and skill gaps through ESCO and ResearchComp. 💼 Develop tailored training programs and career services with a special focus on digital transformation, deep tech industries, and the Green Deal. 🤝 Facilitate networking and collaboration between academic and non-academic sectors through a dedicated virtual ecosystem hub. 🏆 Have 15 research organisations achieve the HR Excellence in Research award. We’re excited to work together with amazing partners in the next three years to create more attractive, inclusive, and sustainable research careers across Europe, empowering the next generation of researchers and strengthening the European Research Area.     🗓️ On June 23-24, 2025, the ARCOE project (Advancing Research Careers through Organizational Excellence) officially kicked off in Rome 🇮🇹, hosted by Fondazione E. Amaldi. Partners from 9 countries came together to align on objectives, methodologies, and upcoming activities for the next three years. ARCOE, funded under the Horizon Europe programme, aims to strengthen research careers in Europe by creating a Virtual Talent Innovation Ecosystem Hub. The project’s main goals include: ✅ Conducting organizational assessments and gap analyses to improve HR practices and career development frameworks across participating institutions. ✅ Supporting 15 research organizations in achieving the HR Excellence in Research (HRS4R) award, ensuring alignment with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. ✅ Developing tailored training programs and career services, with a special focus on digital transformation, deep tech industries, and the Green Deal. ✅ Facilitating networking and collaboration between academic and non-academic sectors through the Meet&Match system within the ecosystem hub, to enhance researcher mobility and cross-sector partnerships. ✅ Creating a long-term business plan to ensure the Virtual Hub remains operational and impactful even after the project ends. Who will benefit? - Researchers at all career stages looking for better training, support, and mobility opportunities. - HR departments and research managers seeking to enhance their institution’s HR and career development frameworks. - European research institutions, especially from Widening countries, aiming to strengthen their talent management and align with European standards. - Industry partners and non-academic stakeholders looking to connect with research talent and foster collaboration.     A mission statement is easy to write, but how do you make sure it’s more than just words on a wall? For any social business, this is the quiet, constant challenge. Our mission at SkillLab - to empower every person to turn their skills into careers - is the reason we exist. But passion doesn't show up on a balance sheet. A desire for equity doesn't win you contracts. The market rarely grades on a curve. Investors, clients, and funders rightfully expect excellence, competitive performance, and a sustainable model. Professing to do good doesn't exempt you from building a viable business. This can create a deep, structural tension between purpose and profit, a daily exercise in serving two imperatives that are not always aligned. How do you prove your mission is not a marketing slogan? How do you make your purpose your operational DNA? How do you deal with market pressures? 7 years after starting SkillLab, achieving B CorpTM certification is evidence that we have found answers to these questions, but, more importantly, it marks our ambition to continue to ask ourselves these questions, and, hopefully, continue to find the right answers.
