When Anna and her daughter Angelina fled Odesa for Warsaw in 2022, they didn’t know a single person. Today, thanks to The Jewish Agency, they’ve found a home and community. This summer, Angelina joined our first full overnight camp in Poland—where 60+ kids lit Shabbat candles, learned about Israel and Judaism, and felt like they truly belonged. Just 18 months ago, our camps in Poland began with 19 participants. Today, they’re helping build a vibrant Jewish community in the heart of Europe.

We were heartbroken to learn that Wesley LePatner, a dedicated leader and board member of UJA-Federation of New York, was among the victims of Monday night’s tragic shooting in Manhattan. We extend our deepest condolences to our partners at UJA and to all who knew and loved her.

This journey tells the story of global Jewish peoplehood in action. Jewish leaders from across North America joined The Jewish Agency this week in France—then flew alongside new olim as they made Aliyah to Israel.
 After an emotional landing, the delegation continued to Bat Yam, where they witnessed the aftermath of destruction from Iranian missiles with our CEO, Yehuda Setton, who grew up in the neighborhood.

This week, Jewish leaders from across North America joined The Jewish Agency in France for our 2025 Large City Executives Seminar—taking a deep and timely look at Jewish life in France, and the role we play in strengthening it. We explored how global Jewish responsibility shows up in real terms: supporting vibrant communities, deepening connections to Israel, and addressing rising antisemitism with determination and care. Our presence on the ground in France has never been more critical. Now, these leaders are on their way to Israel—accompanying new olim from France as they begin their Aliyah journey. On July 4, 1976, Israeli commandos rescued 102 hostages in Entebbe, Uganda—7,500 miles from home. Our Chairman, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Doron Almog, was the first Israeli soldier on the ground. When Iran attacked, we activated. Through the Rising Lion Fund, The Jewish Agency delivered emergency relief, supported strained municipalities, and launched real-time resilience programs across Israel. Simultaneously, we ensured continuity—sending 2,000+ summer Shlichim to camps, protecting thousands of young adults in Israel programs, and welcoming new olim. Hope, resilience, and peoplehood in action. This week in Paris, we joined the French Jewish community for a heartfelt farewell ceremony for 400 individuals and families preparing to make Aliyah this summer. In times of global uncertainty, these olim are choosing to plant roots in Israel—and we are proud to accompany them on this journey. Together with our community partners in France, we are ensuring their transition is meaningful, supported, and safe.

Despite war, missiles, closed airspace, and countless logistical hurdles—all of our summer camp Shlichim scheduled to depart at this stage have made it or are en route. This year, 2,050 Israeli Shlichim will serve at summer camps across North America—forming the largest delegation in our program’s history. It took tireless, round-the-clock coordination by our global team to make it happen. But we knew how important this summer would be. Because in times like these, bringing Israel to Jewish communities matters more than ever.
