On 9th April, right at the trough, where pessimism was dominant: US President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on tariffs. What followed wasn’t just the best day of the year, it was one of the best days in stock market history. However, it could so easily have been missed due to panicked and irrational decision-making. This, unfortunately, is a tale as old as investing itself. Investing can seem easy when markets are smooth sailing. But extreme volatility provides an important test of resolve. Sudden downturns are usually accompanied by a whirlwind of fear and doubt, making it difficult to dissect through the noise. In these situations, we can sometimes make sub-optimal decisions .
