【WAIC 2025 Recap｜Hong Kong's AI Power Steps onto the Global Stage】 Cyberport recently led nine start-ups to join the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2025 and High-level Conference on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence (WAIC 2025) in Shanghai. The companies showcased a range of innovative AI solutions, including education platforms, fall detection systems, smart city applications and generative AI, highlighting Hong Kong’s strength in I&T. A project from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, supported by the Artificial Intelligence Subsidy Scheme, together with iFlytek and Baidu Apollo, the 2 leading AI enterprises at Cyberport, were shortlisted for the Top 30 of the SAIL Award. Biren Technology’s joint project won the SAIL Award, achieving remarkable recognition. At the opening ceremony, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council outlined 3 key directions for AI development: promoting application of outcomes, strengthening innovation and open-source collaboration, and building a secure and trustworthy global governance framework. These align with Cyberport’s development focus. Cyberport is actively advancing AI development through multiple initiatives, including accelerating the realisation of R&D outcomes through the AISS. Cyberport also launched the Cyberport Open Source Community in June to empower open-source technology testing and applications backed by the AI Supercomputing Centre. In parallel, Cyberport is working with the World Digital Technology Academy (WDTA) to establish the WDTA Asia-Pacific Institute, which promotes governance standards and fostering a safe, trustworthy, and responsible AI ecosystem.
