The link between mental health and obesity is clear: Individuals with obesity face a 30-70% higher risk of mental illness. Conversely, those with mental illness are 2-3 times more likely to experience obesity. At Oviva, we've found that addressing mental health as part of obesity care helps patients make lasting changes. We're witnessing a major transformation in the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes, driven by the introduction and increasing availability of GLP-1s. Oviva's Lead Consultant Endocrinologist, Dr Waseem Majeed has published a guide in The Pharmacist News with advice for community and practice pharmacists on how to help patients who have been prescribed weight-loss medications achieve long-term benefits. ⬇️

Each month, we help more than 8,000 people on our Tier 3 Weight Management service, delivered in partnership with the NHS. That partnership means that when GPs refer us, we provide the care - extending capacity while reducing pressures on local health services. Our consultant endocrinologist-led programme provides up to two years of structured support, making it easy for patients to stay engaged long-term. But we also keep GPs informed throughout the process, giving them full visibility of their patients but critically without the workload. Obesity is often at the root of many mobility issues that cause pain, limit independence, and place added strain on local health services.
