UN Ocean Decade's Challenge 10 calls for nothing less than a mindset shift: “Change humanity’s relationship with the ocean.” At the MSC Foundation, we believe that creating lasting change for the ocean begins with how people think, learn, and connect with it. Ocean literacy is not a side effort — it’s foundational. Alongside supporting conservation, we’re focused on making the importance of the ocean more visible, more relevant, and more valued in people’s everyday lives. The ocean isn’t just a backdrop to the climate crisis — it’s a source of wellbeing, cultural identity, food, and security. If we want to foster long-term change, we have to start with understanding. We’re proud to align with UNESCO’s call for a new relationship with the ocean — one which is built not only on reaction, but instead through connection. #MSCFoundation #fortheblueplanet

On 1st August, we’ll be celebrating World Marine Protected Areas Day: a chance to spotlight one of the most effective tools we have to protect our oceans. A Marine Protected Area (MPA) is a space in the ocean where human activity is managed and regulated to help nature recover, thrive, and stay resilient. MPAs can support everything from coral reefs and mangroves to fish stocks and endangered species. They’re one of the most effective tools we have to restore marine life, fight climate change, and ensure healthy oceans for future generations. Today is the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem — a day to celebrate one of the most quietly powerful forces in nature. Mangroves stabilise coastlines, shelter biodiversity, and capture carbon more efficiently than most forests — but they remain among the most threatened ecosystems in the world. Through our partnership with Earthna, we’re helping to turn the tide. With our support, three land nurseries have been created where 117,000 mangrove seeds have already been sowed. #InternationalMangroveDay #MSCFoundation #ForTheBluePlanet

MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys guests can now engage even more deeply with ocean conservation thanks to a new, immersive installation. Through the VR experience available at our MSC Foundation Centres on MSC World America and EXPLORA II, marine species themselves guide users through their ecosystems, explaining their ecological importance and the threats they face. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to ocean literacy and environmental education at sea. By combining innovation and impact, we aim to inspire deeper understanding and action to safeguard marine ecosystems. #MSCFoundation #MSCCruises #ForTheBluePlanet

This morning, a new episode of Quasar aired on Rai 2, featuring our Executive Director Daniela Picco and MSC Cruises’ Leonardo Massa in conversation with Valerio Rossi Albertini. The interview focused on the MSC Foundation’s Super Coral Reefs Programme at Ocean Cay and the new Marine Conservation Center, which combine restoration, research, and public education. These efforts aim to engage the millions of cruise guests visiting the island each year, raising awareness and fostering ocean stewardship. In this recent footage from our coral nursery at Ocean Cay, a pod of dolphins swims through the area — a powerful reminder of the life we’re working to support. Our coral nursery is part of a broader strategy to strengthen marine biodiversity. While our team focuses on growing and outplanting coral fragments to support reef resilience in a changing environment, signs like this reflect the broader potential of restoring balance to marine ecosystems. Supporting biodiversity starts with small, deliberate actions — and grows from there. #MSCFoundation #OceanCay #SuperCoralReefsProgramme

How well do we really know the ocean? At the MSC Foundation, we believe that working with and on the sea comes with a responsibility to understand and care for it. Inspired by this shared conviction, MSC Group colleagues around the world contributed facts about the ocean that everyone should know. This initiative brought together knowledge, reflection, and a deep sense of stewardship. Because knowledge isn’t just power — it’s the foundation for action. Dive into their insights and join us in raising awareness about the challenges and wonders of our blue planet. #MSCFoundation #FortheBluePlanet #oceanliteracy

As part of our partnership with the University of The Bahamas, marine biology students recently spent two weeks at Ocean Cay, gaining field experience in coral restoration. One of the highlights of their stay was diving to visit the coral nursery, engaging in reef observation and measurement, water quality assessment, species identification, and coral reef health evaluations. These immersive activities provided them with practical skills and a deeper understanding of the challenges and solutions involved in reef conservation. We’re proud to help equip the next generation of marine scientists with the skills, knowledge and experience they need to care for their precious marine ecosystems. Today, on the Day of the Mediterranean Sea, as well as always, we’re standing with the next generation of maritime professionals, working to foster knowledge, awareness, and care. The Mediterranean holds 7.5% of global marine biodiversity, yet it is warming 20% faster than the global average. As it faces unprecedented pressure, education isn’t just important — it’s essential. This school year alone, over 1,400 students and 118 teachers from 26 nautical institutes across Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal took part in Marevivo's NauticinBlu programme. By helping young people understand the complexity and fragility of our shared sea, we’re building the foundations for tomorrow’s ocean stewards. Because caring for the Mediterranean Sea begins with learning to value it. #MSCFoundation #Marevivo

The future belongs to the next generation. At the MSC Foundation, we feel that lasting change begins with education. That’s why we invest in initiatives that empower young people, both ashore and at sea, to understand, respect, and take care of the ocean. From delivering ocean literacy programmes in schools with trusted partners, to engaging families and children aboard MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys ships through interactive activities and educational content, we’re helping build a generation ready to safeguard the ocean for the future. Because restoring balance to our blue planet starts with knowledge, and the next generation will be the driving force. #MSCFoundation #FortheBluePlanet
