“The only way to understand environmental catastrophes is through data, and we need monitoring capabilities to predict them and protect the people in the field and the civil population.” That’s according to Dr. Andres Diaz, senior research scientist at INFICON and university professor who recently spent an intensive week of testing new emerging technologies for in situ volcanic measurements at Mount Etna. It wasn’t without challenges—which included the actual eruption of Etna on June 2—but it also was a success. It was a collective achievement in collaboration between INFICON and our research colleagues to test our latest in situ gas-sensing technologies, platforms, and sensors to advance the capabilities and data access to gain a better understanding of in situ volcanic monitoring. ➡️ Get all of the details on our research at Mount Etna and how it’s making a difference: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/ePrdAKQb #IntelligentSensorSolutions #Innovation

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱? Tool availability is something that people in fabs pay attention to every day. But, as with most things related to fabs, when we dig into the definition of availability, we find hidden complexity. After discussing availability with our customers, we identified a need for two different versions of the numerator for the availability calculation, and two different versions of the denominator. The variations in the numerator depend on whether time that a tool is up but being used by engineering (to perform experiments or recipe-level quals) counts as available time. The variations in the denominator depend on whether we use total time or operations time (which excludes non-scheduled time). These two versions of numerator and denominator result in four definitions, each of which may be relevant for different needs. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝘆 More than 50 years ago in Balzers, Liechtenstein, something extraordinary began. In the early 1970s, Remo Vogelsang, former lead electrical engineer at Balzers AG, helped create the QMG 511, the world’s first digitally controlled quadrupole mass spectrometer. At a time when electronics were shifting from vacuum tubes to semiconductors, Remo and his team built a fully digital, reliable, and easy-to-manufacture system. This made high-vacuum gas analysis practical for industrial environments. This breakthrough transformed mass spectrometry from a laboratory tool into a robust technology for real-world production. Last week, we hosted an expert exchange at our Balzers site with Remo Vogelsang and Norbert Müller, retired INFICON colleague and long-standing authority in mass spectrometry. During the meeting we handed over an original QMG 511 to Remo as a recognition of his pioneering work on the world’s first digitally controlled quadrupole mass spectrometer. It was a meaningful moment and a celebration of the people behind the innovation. 👉 Read the full story on our website: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eRCEZyuX #INFICON #MassSpectrometry #QMG511 #Engineering #IntelligentSensorSolutions #Innovation #Balzers

𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 As the world pushes to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C, the urgency to 𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 grows exponentially. Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) technologies are central to this mission—helping industries find and fix leaks quickly to meet environmental standards and advance sustainability. While large-scale solutions like satellites, drones, and sensor networks provide critical oversight, ground-level precision is indispensable. 💡 Why does leak detection in the field matter? ✅ Many leaks come from small, hard-to-monitor components—valves, seals, flanges—that demand handheld tools for accurate detection. ✅ Operators must locate and verify leaks precisely, supporting faster repairs and reducing emissions. ✅ Field detection complements large-scale monitoring with reliable, actionable data. IRwin methane leak detector is designed specifically for demanding field conditions and delivers fast, precise detection at the component level, filling the critical gap left by remote technologies. 🔍 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 In semiconductor manufacturing, a depleted precursor ampoule or a small air leak can jeopardize entire batches of wafers. That’s why fabs use SemiQCM® sensors from INFICON for real-time precursor monitoring and air leak detection. Installed on the foreline of CVD and ALD tools, these sensors use quartz crystal microbalance technology to: ✅ Detect ampoule depletion in as few as one wafer ✅ Identify precursor delivery issues before impacting film quality ✅ Detect air leaks that can lead to costly wafer scraps From molybdenum precursor monitoring to air leak detection, the SemiQCM sensor gives fabs the data they need to act fast before yield takes a hit. 📄 Read our article and download the application note: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/e5TDiKrH #Semiconductor #ProcessControl #ThinFilm #INFICON #SmartManufacturing #IntelligentSensorSolutions #SemiQCM #Quality
