After years of working across the global soccer landscape—from FIFA DRC proceedings to regulatory reform—I’m proud to introduce Pitchside Sports Consulting (PSC): a boutique consultancy designed to help CONCACAF stakeholders navigate the game’s evolving legal framework. Here’s the reality: 🧑⚖️ Players lack legal protection 🏟️ Clubs & leagues face barriers to professionalization 🗂️ FIFA’s regulatory tools remain widely underused in our region This legal gap is holding back development—and revenue. PSC exists to close it. As a Canadian with roots in 🇸🇷 Suriname, 🇨🇼 Curaçao, and 🇰🇳 St. Kitts & Nevis, making sports law—especially soccer law—accessible across the Americas is personal. At 28, I represent a new generation of legal professionals working to bridge global standards with regional realities. Despite gaining experience with some of the world’s leading legal institutions, I’ve often encountered a recurring theme: that this type of legal expertise is “ahead of its time” for the market. But that’s exactly why PSC was created—to make these tools not just available, but actionable. We deliver legal and strategic support in: ⚖️ Dispute Resolution 🔐 Compliance & Governance 🛡️ Player Protection 🔑 Knowledge & Capacity Building Whether you’re a club, league, agent, player, or institution—PSC meets you where you are, and helps you get where you need to be. 📩 If you're working to raise the standard of soccer in CONCACAF, I’d love to connect: 📆 Book a time to talk: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eMCXGe5d 📧 Email: andrew.m.werners@gmail.com 🌐 Substack: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eDJp5-4G Let’s talk solutions. — Andrew M. ⚖️⚽Football Law in CONCACAF — Part 2 🇨🇦When Canadian Exceptionalism Needs a Reality Check 📢 In the latest FIFA latest Football Tribunal Quarterly Report: ⚖️110 new decisions in the Q2 Meanwhile in Canada: ❌0 claims filed ❌0 decisions rendered ❌0 structural mechanisms to access this global system ❌0 understanding of 'lex sportiva' and the importance of #football 🧠 Its not that football-related dispute disappear when you come up north. This also is not a technicality. It’s a systemic #legal gap. Not just a missed opportunity — a $500M+ disconnect from the regulatory economy driving #global #professional #football. 🧩 In Part 2 of our ongoing series, I expand on the FIFA data and go deeper into: 📌Why the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada / Centre de Règlement des Différends Sportifs du Canada (SDRCC) Lacks a Football-Specific Dispute Mechanism — and How Canada Soccer & Law Societies throughout the nation continue expose this structural gap by not recognizing this field in the Law Society Certified Specialist Program Framework 📌 How FIFA Circular #1010, Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) Jurisprudence, and the CAS #Football #List Set the Global Benchmark for Football Dispute Resolution — and Why Only a Select Number of FIFA-Recognized NDRCs with a Designated Football List Meet This Standard 📌 What it would take for #Canada and the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada / Centre de Règlement des Différends Sportifs du Canada to meet the global benchmark — despite receiving over $5 million annually in #federal #funding, and no structural alignment with FIFA Circular 1010 or CAS jurisprudence. Bridging this gap would first require capacity to navigate lex sportiva... thereafter, targeted legal reform, regulatory expertise, and investment in football are all necessary steps to Canadian sports development 📍Full article in comments. 📣 Share this with someone serious about advancing football law in Canada Soccer or across CONCACAF. 🚨 Football Law in CONCACAF — Part 1 Global precedents are being written. But where is our region? On 15 July 2025, FIFA released its latest report on football-related cases before Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). As the only football regulatory consultancy in the Northwestern Hemisphere, we conducted a region-specific analysis — and the findings are hard to ignore: ⚖️ Over 70% of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) proceedings now originate from FIFA Football Tribunal cases — affirming Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) as the central forum for global football dispute resolution. 📉 Yet 95% of CONCACAF stakeholders — including #Canada and the #Caribbean — have filed zero cases altogether. 📍The only activity from our region came from the U.S. (1) and Mexico (3). The rest of CONCACAF remains entirely absent. This isn’t a coincidence — it’s an institutional gap with far-reaching legal, economic, and developmental consequences. At Pitchside Sports Consulting (PSC), we launched #TheFootballRegulatoryDatabase on Substack to help correct course — providing stakeholders across Canada, the Caribbean, and Central America with the regulatory tools and legal pathways to engage with the system that governs the global game. 🧠 In Part 1 of our series: - Reflections on the FIFA Quarterly Report. - What opportunities are being lost in #disputeresolution, compensation, and precedent-setting - How to activate FIFA’s legal tools in underserved football nations 📩 If you're a player, agent, club, league, federation, players' association, or football stakeholder in CONCACAF — lets connect 🫱🏾🫲🏿 We are actively working with stakeholders across the region who stand to benefit significantly from FIFA’s regulatory framework. 👇 Link in comments. Let’s get to work. #FootballLaw #SportsLaw #FIFA #CAS #FIFAFootballTribunal #CONCACAF #Canada #Caribbean #LexSportiva #PitchsideSportsConsulting 🇨🇼 🇸🇷 🇰🇳 🇨🇦 🇦🇮 🇦🇬 🇦🇼 🇧🇸 🇧🇧 🇧🇿 🇧🇲 🇻🇬 🇰🇾 🇨🇷 🇨🇺 🇩🇲 🇩🇴 🇸🇻 🇬🇩 🇬🇹 🇬🇵 🇬🇺 🇭🇹 🇭🇳 🇯🇲 🇲🇶 🇲🇸 🇲🇽 🇳🇮 🇵🇦 🇵🇷 🇱🇨 🇻🇨 🇸🇽 🇹🇨 🇹🇹 🇻🇮 🇺🇸🇧🇶
FIFA is publishing the second (edition 2025) of the FIFA Quarterly Report on CAS Football Awards, available from 15 July. This report offers comprehensive and up-to-date summary of football-related decisions by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), spotlighting key legal trends, landmark rulings, and significant references from CAS jurisprudence, the Swiss Federal Tribunal and the European Court of Justice. This initiative sits alongside the annual CAS & Football Report and reflects FIFA’s continued commitment to transparency and knowledge sharing within the global football community. With over 70% of CAS cases involving football, the report is designed as an useful resource for clubs, players, lawyers and academics operating in the world of football law. By surfacing detailed insight into the legal decisions shaping the game, FIFA aims to support the community in better understanding the evolving regulatory landscape.
