  • This marks another step in the right direction toward decarbonization for Humber College’s Project SWITCH. By installing a 4 MWh battery energy storage system, the college will be able to reduce its grid demand during peak hours. To learn more about this inpiring project, see the link below.

As part of Project SWITCH, Humber is finalizing installation of a 4MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the North Campus. This system will help reduce demand on the grid when provincial electricity use is peaking, enhancing our ability to manage when we use energy and substantially reduce our utility costs.    This marks another step forward in Project SWITCH and our decarbonization efforts—reducing emissions, improving resilience, and advancing our commitment to a low-carbon future.    Learn more about the project on the page: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gQVKgkwr Ecosystem Asaph Benun Eneon-ES Modern Niagara Toronto Hydro Junaid Malik Michael Pathak P.Eng, CEM, MASc

After multiple bond proposals were voted down, the Glen Cove City School District needed an alternative path to address aging infrastructure and new ventilation requirements, without burdening taxpayers. Through a collaborative Energy Performance Contract approach, Glen Cove achieved: ✅ Improve indoor air quality with heat pump rooftop units and heat recovery ✅ Redesign lighting across all schools with high-efficiency LED systems ✅ Offset district electricity demand with a 1+ MW solar PV system ✅ Secure over $21K in utility incentives ✅ Cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% ✅ Reduce annual energy costs by $405K Last month, our team presented the progress of our Energy Performance Contract with Glen Cove City School District at a Board of Education meeting on Long Island. Our K-12 business development manager, Ahmed I. Ibrahim, and site supervisor, Michaele Watson, E.I.T., walked the Board of Education, administration, and attending public through the project’s impacts—including progress photos, incentive achievements, infrastructure upgrades, and long-term savings projections. “When understanding of needs, experience, and trust merge, you get a project like Glen Cove,” said Ibrahim. “I’m honored to work with this leadership and to serve the BOE and community at Glen Cove Central School District.” This project proves that with the right partnership and delivery model, schools can tackle critical upgrades, reduce emissions, and create better spaces for students, all while maintaining financial responsibility. Take a look at some of our before-and-after pictures below! #k12 #energyefficiency #energyperformancecontract #decarbonization #sustainability Glen Cove City School District

What does it take to get the best value from a deep energy retrofit in multi-residential and mixed-use buildings? At this year’s Retrofit Canada Conference, industry leaders shared practical strategies for maximizing impact, not just in terms of carbon reduction, but long-term asset value, occupant satisfaction, and project efficiency. Key recommendations included: STAKEHOLDER ALIGNMENT - Understand and align with what each group values, from cap rates and certifications to air quality and resilience - Pair GHG reduction goals with planned maintenance to unlock funding - Think in terms of long-term pipelines, not one-off projects PROCUREMENT & DELIVERY - Clearly define success metrics in your request for proposal (RFP) — then let the market propose how to meet them - Choose integrated providers who combine engineering and construction and are contractually accountable for results TECHNICAL STRATEGY - Access to granular data is essential for load analysis and equipment sequencing - The right order of implementation makes or breaks decarbonization outcomes The bottom line: successful retrofits require more than good intentions — they require alignment, accountability, and data-driven decision-making. #DeepRetrofit #EnergyEfficiency #GHGReduction #SustainableBuilding #RetrofitStrategy Asaph Benun Maxime Jeffrey-Gauthier Joanna Jackson

On a mission to reconnect engineers with results, striving for efficiency while having fun in the process!

At this year’s Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Energy Summit & Expo, the message was clear: meaningful energy savings for small businesses starts with the right strategy, not just new equipment. During the “Energy 101: What Can Small Business Owners Do to Bring Down Their Energy Costs” panel, Ecosystem’s Lucas Benjamin Taub joined leaders from Con Edison, Belmont Metals Inc., and LandAir Renewables to discuss practical approaches to energy upgrades and affordability in the face of evolving climate regulations. Top takeaways included: 1. “Start with your goals.” As Lucas noted, not every audit leads to an actionable project. Know what you want to achieve — whether it’s cost savings, emissions reduction, or resilience — and shape your audit around that. 2. “First, reduce consumption. Then recover heat. Then rethink systems.” Taking a layered, strategic approach ensures you get maximum value from every investment. 3. “Planning takes time.” Tara Saber-Khiabani reminded us that setting the right foundation is essential to access incentives, align stakeholders, and avoid costly missteps down the line. 4. Engineering matters. As Michael Henning-PMP, ISC2CC emphasized, choosing the right partner—one who understands your business and energy goals—makes all the difference. Thanks to the Brooklyn Chamber and NYC Accelerator for hosting a session focused on practical, scalable solutions for small businesses navigating New York’s energy transition. #energyefficiency #decarbonization #NYC
