Last-minute sick call? When your team member texts about their kid's fever, you can approve their time off knowing the schedule will handle itself. Our new feature resolves shift conflicts automatically, so you can focus on what matters—like enjoying summer 🌊 ☀️

  • Since launching our partnership with Bryntum, one question keeps coming up: “How do I actually use these tools together?” 🤔 In our latest blog, we walk you through exactly that: How to combine Timefold’s intelligent scheduling engine with Bryntum’s powerful UI to build schedules that do more than just display boxes on a timeline. If you’re looking to build something smarter, more efficient, and fully integrated into your stack, this is for you. 🔗 https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eJDxXShD #Timefold #Bryntum #Scheduling #Optimization

"This schedule doesn't feel right" 🤔 This is a sentence I've often heard from people when faced with a machine-optimized schedule. It's quite interesting to get to a situation where you have signed off on all the constraints and requirements (often through many iterations), implement them perfectly... but the feeling something is "off" lingers. 😶 Sometimes, this is due to a missing constraint, perhaps something even a planning expert themselves can't really put to words or explain. 🦄 Sometimes, it's just a nuance on an existing constraint. "Yes, this constraint shouldn't be applied to this (very unique) instance." ⚖️ Feelings like these are valid and powerful things, but they are not always rational (they don't have to be). Even when given a mathematically optimized schedule, human planners will often feel the urge to make changes. A plan is always about trade-offs and the more complex the problem, the harder it becomes to really grasp all of them. 🔨 By making changes, planners risk getting dragged into a game of Whac-A-Mole. A single manual improvement (eg. "It'll feel better if Carl takes this shift"), can have a cascading effect and really break the schedule in new and sometimes unexpected ways... which they then try to fix again. 🦸 Despite that risk, we absolutely need to enable human planners to make changes to these schedules. They bring an unrivalled level of intuition, nuance and empathy which are needed for getting the "real" best result, not just the mathematically best one. 🦾 💪 To find a schedule that isn't just feasible or optimized but also "feels right", we need to give human planners the best tools. We need tools that allow human planners to use their "gut feeling" to enhance an already optimized schedule beyond the regular constraints while using the strengths of computers to signal clearly what the impact of their manual changes is on the rest of the schedule. Human + AI > AI --- I was in my car to work today and this thought came to mind, the idea of "feeling the schedule is right" about a schedule. Do you also think human intuition and empathy still have a place in this AI driven world? What do you think human planners need most now to help them with their work? I'm curious to hear your opinions on this! 😊

  • Welcome to the fifth edition of Planned! 📫 This issue zooms in on one big idea: turning complex optimization into something humans actually understand and trust. First up, Tom Cools shows how to swap “Because I said so” for trustworthy systems with Explainable AI. Next, you'll find everything about our new partnership with Bryntum, and how we turn complex schedules into usable visuals together. Plus: a VRP webinar replay full of production-ready tips and an interview with lead engineer Lukáš Petrovický on Timefold Solver. #Explainability #Optimization #Partnership

  • It’s been a little over two years since we forked OptaPlanner and carried the project forward as Timefold Solver. An excellent occasion to sit together with Timefold Solver Lead Engineer Lukáš Petrovický, and discuss his work and how the project has evolved in the past years. The 15-minute interview is definitely worth a watch if you're interested in: → A look back at the early days of OptaPlanner → What has happened since the fork → Where are we heading with the Solver? #TimefoldSolver #OptaPlanner

  • 🌍✈️ From Brazil, Australia, Czechia, Scotland, Canada, Germany... our crew crossed continents to touch down in Ghent for three unforgettable team days. It was genuinely awesome how we turned Slack threads into late night conversations, sharpened strategy side by side, and bonded in ways you just can’t replicate online. Energized, focused, and ready for what's to come! 🚀

  • 24 hours. That’s all that’s left to claim your seat for our very first webinar 'Vehicle Routing Problems in production: When research meets reality'. During this one hour live session, hosted by Geoffrey De Smet and Tom Cools, you'll learn how to turn the textbook Vehicle Routing Problem into a real-world solution that saves millions every year. You don't want to miss this one! 👉 https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eynvYgga #VRP #PlanningAI #Optimization #FieldServiceManagement
