AIATSIS CEO Leonard Hill and Director of International Engagement and Cultural Diplomacy Sam Brazel are currently in Japan, strengthening global connections and exploring opportunities for collaboration. Their visit focuses on amplifying Indigenous voices, cultures and perspectives in shaping national identities through international partnerships. During their time in Hokkaido, they visited the Upopoy National Ainu Museum and Park in Shiraoi and well as the Nibutani Ainu Culture Museum and other places in Biratori. They met with senior leaders Masahiro Nomoto, Professor Sasaki Shiro and Sekine Kenji – key figures in preserving and sharing the rich heritage of the Ainu people, the Indigenous peoples of the region. A heartfelt thank you to Mio-san (Upopoy National Ainu Museum and Park), Wong-san (Nibutani Ainu Culture Museum) and everyone who welcomed AIATSIS so warmly. Together, we continue to build bridges across cultures and continents.
