LOOKS AT A LOT OF FACTORS, RIGHT? BLAKE, FROM WAGES TO HIRING TRENDS AND EVEN AFFORDABILITY, THE STUDY SUGGESTED THAT WHILE MOST STUDENTS TEND TO LOOK AT BIG NAME CITIES FOR THAT FIRST JOB, IT MIGHT BE BEST TO TAKE A LOOK AT SMALLER CITIES, INCLUDING RIGHT HERE IN MILWAUKEE. IT’S THE QUESTION EVERY COLLEGE GRADUATE FACES. WHAT ARE YOU DOING AFTER GRADUATION? I KNOW SOME PEOPLE THAT ARE IN MY SHOES THAT ARE STILL LOOKING AND STILL SEARCHING FOR 21 YEAR OLD MARQUETTE GRAD MATT CARON. THAT QUESTION IS NO SWEAT. I WAS ABLE TO LAND AN INTERNSHIP AT A COMPANY HERE IN MILWAUKEE, AND ONCE I WORKED THERE, I ENDED UP SIGNING ON FULL TIME. THE CONNECTICUT NATIVE JUST LANDED A JOB AT PRICEWATERHOUSE MILWAUKEE OFFICE, AND IT TURNS OUT MORE AND MORE COLLEGE GRADS ARE LOOKING TO THE CREAM CITY FOR THEIR FIRST JOB. A NEW SURVEY FROM PAYROLL SERVICES PROVIDER ADP RANKS MILWAUKEE SECOND BEST IN THE NATION FOR COLLEGE GRADS TO GET JOBS. THE STUDY, WHICH FACTORS IN WAGES, HIRING AND AFFORDABILITY, CITED MILWAUKEE’S GROWING BIG NAME COMPANIES LIKE NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL AND MILWAUKEE TOOL. YOU KNOW, IT DOESN’T SURPRISE ME TOO MUCH. I’VE LIVED IN MILWAUKEE NOW FOR 18 YEARS. TIM ALBRECHT, GROUP PRESIDENT OF MILWAUKEE TOOLS, SAYS THE COMPANY AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN MAKING MOVES IN MILWAUKEE. ONE OF THE REASONS THAT WE JUST OPENED UP ANOTHER CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS IN DOWNTOWN MILWAUKEE WAS TO TRY TO ATTRACT MORE TALENT NUMBERS FROM UW MILWAUKEE SHOW NEARLY 1200 STUDENTS FROM THE CLASS OF 2024 STAYED IN TOWN AFTER GRADUATION. I THINK THERE’S A POCKET OF ACTIVITY AND OPPORTUNITY THAT THE YOUNGER GENERATION, THE NEWER GRADS, ARE SEEING AND THEY’RE BEING DRAWN TO IT. JUST BEING HERE FOR FOUR YEARS DEFINITELY HELPED ME FIND, YOU KNOW, A GOOD SPOT. AND IT WAS LIKE IT FELT LIKE HOME TO ME BY THE END OF THE MY JOURNEY AT MARQUETTE. AND SO MILWAUKEE WAS RANKED NUMBER TWO. BUT WHAT OTHER CITIES MADE THE LIST? YEAH THAT’S RIGHT BLAKE RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA STOOD ALONE AT NUMBER ONE, FOLLOWED BY MILWAUKEE, THEN BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, THE

Milwaukee has been ranked as the second-best city in the nation for new college graduates to find jobs, according to a study by ADP that considered wages, hiring trends and affordability.While many students often look to big-name cities, the study suggests that smaller cities like Milwaukee might offer better opportunities. "I know some people that are in my shoes that are still looking, still searching," Matt Carone, a 21-year-old class of 2025 Marquette University graduate, said. Originally from Connecticut, he landed a job at Price Waterhouse Coopers' Milwaukee office after an internship. "I was able to land an internship at a company here in Milwaukee, and once I worked there, I ended up signing on full time," Carone said.The survey from ADP highlights Milwaukee's growing big-name companies, such as Northwestern Mutual and Milwaukee Tool."It doesn't surprise me too much. I have lived in Milwaukee now for 18 years," Tim Albrecht, group president of Milwaukee Tool, said. "One of the reasons that we just opened up another corporate headquarters in downtown Milwaukee was to try to attract more talent."Data from UW Milwaukee shows that nearly 1,200 students from the class of 2024 stayed in town after graduation. "I think there is a pocket of activity and opportunity that the younger generation, the newer grads are seeing, and they are being drawn to it," Mike Brauer, development director at Children's Wisconsin Foundation, said. The study ranked Raleigh, North Carolina, as the top city for new grads, followed by Milwaukee, Baltimore, Austin and Birmingham, Alabama.
